Bondi Announces Inquiry into President's Opponents and Jeffrey Epstein Ties
This past Friday, the Attorney General assigned interim US attorney Jay Clayton to oversee an investigation into opponents of Donald Trump and their links with the late financier. This action came hours after Trump ordered her to begin the investigation.
In a statement, Bondi praised Jay Clayton as “among the nation’s top prosecutors”. The official remarked, “The department will handle this matter promptly and thoroughly to provide clarity for citizens.”
This action contrasts with a recent memorandum from federal authorities which stated that the Epstein files did not warrant further inquiries. According to the memo, authorities “found no proof justifying probes into uncharged individuals”
Trump Demands Scrutiny of Democrats in Epstein Matter
The announcement coincides with increasing demands from Trump on congressional Republicans to resist the full release of files concerning Epstein ahead of an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Many Republicans are expected to support the disclosure.
Recently released emails from Jeffrey Epstein have spotlighted Trump’s previous connections with the sex trafficker, revealing details that he was more aware of Epstein’s actions than earlier acknowledged.
On Friday, Trump announced he would ask the Department of Justice to examine connections between Epstein and Democratic figures, specifically naming Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Paradoxically, he also described the “Epstein situation” as a “deception”.
